He had finally done it, he had dumped her. They both shouted the odds at each other. She spent half of their evening together in disbelief, primarily not understanding why he was doing this to her. Very strong words had gone between them and he finally told her to get out of the third floor flat. She was on the edge of crying, a few teardrops fell across her tight, young cheeks.
Her limbs were heavy as she forced her feet across the thick, blue carpet. She reached her hand out and turned the brass knob. Her soft fingers curled around the ball as she slipped the door open. It was then she started. The young woman muttered under her breath a long time. Her words were indistinguishable.
He had never seen her this distraught and it caused his heart to start to melt. He had to be firm with her, he no longer loved her but another. She now knew this, its what made her sadder than all of the hurtful things he had called her. He could feel her pain but refused to give in to her.
She finished her mumblings and shot an evil gaze back at him. Her eyes glowed bright red. He could feel a strange force emanating from her like a gale force wind. She slammed the door behind her.
He waited for a moment to check that shed definitely gone then sank into his low-backed sofa dropping into the leather. He closed his eyes a moment in reflection. He then wandered across the room and took a glass from the lower pane of his metal and glass drinks cabinet. He sat the lowball glass on the glass top then took a handful of ice and dropped it in, following the ice were two glugs of whiskey from his crystal decanter.
Sitting back on the fine leather he looked through his flat window. A few drops of rain hit the large window. The city was soaking after six weeks of unending rain. He was still a little unhappy at losing her but his new love would soothe him tomorrow when she had arrived. It was early enough that he did not feel very tired yet.
The wall opposite seemed to be moving. The wallpaper flowed like water. The bricks finally flowed into the shape of his newly ex-girlfriend's face. Tears poured down the wallpapered cheeks into puddles on the floor. His glass felt hot as the eyes of the wall face began to turn red. He glanced down at the drink only to see flames emanating from the glass. The heat made him drop it , smashing it on the carpeted floor. The pool of tears on the floor put the flames out.
He ran to the phone and rang the police. When it was answered the voice was hers. He dropped the receiver vaguely onto the cradle. He tried to regain his composure and though he blinked several times and wiped his sweaty hand over his face it was all still there.
The wall around the face became mobile again and a thousand million large spiders formed from the paper. The floor teemed with the creatures; huge black creatures were running across the floor toward him with small red patches all over their bodies. They seemed toxic enough. His back was pressed to the wall in fear. From the floor a mass of snakes began to show. The snakes bared their teeth but he was happier to crouch on the floor by the wall crying and shivering in fear. For a moment he thought he saw the sofa twitching, or was that simply his fear of the creatures bearing down on him from all sides of the room. It was moving, a huge crocodile was being formed from his furniture. A snake hissed at him as it moved closer causing all of the others to create a charcophany of hissing. The noise became unbearable as the smaller reptiles were joined by a roar from the crocodile. Come to think of it he said it was a crocodile but the teller has no proof that he checked this, alligators look very similar at first sight.
The mouth of the face in the wall opened up showing a range of long, pointed teeth like a picket fence only razor sharp. On the floor he wept in tears of grief and fear. He closed his eyes and dropped away.
His eyes blinked open and looked at the clock at his bedside. He was late for his meeting with his new girlfriend. He was sure she would be at the station feeling that she had been stood up. Throwing himself into a sitting position he looked around. He saw her face and behind her a nurse. Scanning the room he realised that he was in hospital. As the anaesthetic wore off a jolt of pain made him look down. His body was covered in multiple different shaped bite marks. She ran over and hugged him, told him that she loved him and that it was all over now.
The autopsy read that they died together in each other's arms, if they ever found what devoured their arms.
